check out this month’s Parenting Magazine

If you’re a cool mama like me you know that there are now two flavors of Parenting Magazine: Early Years and School Years.  (I qualify for both.)  For the May 2010 issues, both versions are running excerpts from my new book, and please do run out and buy at the newsstand. But just in case you do some of your media consumption online, and just in case you haven’t devoured the book cover to cover already, you can also read these two different essays on the website. This one is from a chapter I called “Unaccompanied Mother.” This one is called “Penny the Pig.” Hope you enjoy.

What a brilliant article–the one on the plane. Beautifully written, perfectly executed. Applause all around.

I'm so glad your story ended in barf and self-assurance. That, truly, is the enduring story of motherhood, and would it be that we could all have a tape playing perpetually in our heads: "I'm enough, I'm capable, and dammit, I kicked ass as a mom today, because shit and puke happen, and I bore down. I am amazing."

Both copies of Parenting arrived on Friday…..I finally had a chance to read through them this morning with my coffee….locked away on the porch by myself at 7:30am….oh my goodness, you are my hero.
I laughed out loud at the story from the plane. The pampered pig is equally funny. Still cracking up over that one. It hits close to home. So glad to now be following your blog. 🙂
